Worked example: a 45-minute recipe

Your oven recipe says to cook for 45 minutes.

  1. Enter the recipe time

    Enter 45 and choose Minutes.

  2. Find the published band

45 minutes belongs to the 30 to 45 minute band under this tool's earlier-endpoint rule.

  3. Read both settings

High: 3 to 4 hours. Low: 6 to 8 hours.

Result: 45 minutes oven time: High 3 to 4 hours, Low 6 to 8 hours.

These are approximate ranges. Follow your own recipe and slow-cooker instructions.

A little help in the kitchen

How to use it

  1. Enter the cooking duration given by your oven or hob (stovetop) recipe and choose minutes or hours. For example, enter 45 minutes or 0.75 hours.

  2. Choose Convert cooking time to see estimated slow-cooker Low and High ranges. The published guide covers 20 minutes to 3 hours of conventional cooking.

  3. Follow your recipe and your own cooker's instructions when adapting ingredients, liquid and cooking time. Save, share or print the result if useful.

How it works

The converter looks up your recipe duration in the approximate oven/hob table on page 3 of Coopers of Stortford's 1.5 L Slow Cooker 7644 instructions. It returns that band's Low and High ranges without multiplying by a fixed factor or interpolating.

The source gives 20 to 30 minutes as 4 to 6 hours on Low or 1½ to 2½ hours on High; 30 to 45 minutes as 6 to 8 hours on Low or 3 to 4 hours on High; and 45 minutes to 3 hours as 8 to 10 hours on Low or 4 to 6 hours on High.

The printed bands overlap at 30 and 45 minutes. This tool assigns each shared endpoint to the earlier band. Thus exactly 30 minutes uses the first band and exactly 45 minutes uses the second. A duration just above an endpoint uses the following band. Below 20 minutes or above 3 hours, it shows no estimate.

This is guidance from one appliance's manual, not a universal timetable. Ingredients, recipe preparation and your cooker can affect the time. Cooking time alone does not confirm doneness. Check your recipe and appliance instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work for oven and hob recipes?

The source table covers conventional oven and hob cooking durations. Hob means stovetop. Both use the same guide, so there is no separate cooking-method selector.

Why does the result show a range?

The appliance instructions provide approximate ranges. Recipe ingredients, preparation and the cooker can affect timing. The converter keeps those ranges rather than inventing a single exact time.

Which band applies at exactly 30 or 45 minutes?

This tool uses the earlier band at a shared endpoint. Exactly 30 minutes gives Low 4 to 6 hours and High 1½ to 2½ hours. Exactly 45 minutes gives Low 6 to 8 hours and High 3 to 4 hours.

What if my recipe takes less than 20 minutes or more than 3 hours?

The tool shows Outside the published guide and gives no Low or High estimate. Use a suitable slow-cooker recipe or your appliance's instructions instead of extending this table.

Can I convert every recipe using these times?

These estimates do not determine whether a recipe is suitable for slow cooking. The source discusses changes to liquid and adding some ingredients later. Follow a suitable recipe and your cooker's instructions; duration alone does not confirm doneness.

Can I save, share or print the result?

Save stores the settings in your browser. Share link puts them in the link fragment. Save as PDF downloads the input duration, result and general note without generated dates or times. Delete my data clears local saved plans and preferences.
