Easter dinner details

Start with an Easter plan

Fills editable example times. Your serving details and sides stay. Adjust cooking and resting times to your recipe or package.

When you want to eat

Choose today or later in the selected time zone.

Applies to every oven temperature. Existing values convert when you switch units.

Your main roast

Bone-in leg (whole cut). Choose a matching recipe.

Use your recipe. Required country minimums cannot be shortened.

Side dishes

Oven sides cook one after another in list order. The last side finishes at serving time. Hob tasks run independently. Check tray space and plan how to keep earlier dishes hot safely.

Worked example: Easter lamb at 1pm

Serve at 13:00. Your lamb recipe takes 2 hours to cook and 20 minutes to rest.

  1. Subtract the resting time

13:00 minus 20 minutes: take the lamb out at 12:40.

  2. Subtract the cooking time

Put the lamb in at 10:40.

  3. Allow for preheating

Begin preheating 20 minutes earlier, at 10:20. Add your sides using their recipe times and temperatures.

Result: Preheat 10:20; lamb in 10:40; lamb out 12:40; serve 13:00.

These are editable planning examples, not a recommended cooking time for a particular lamb weight or cut. Check the meat with a food thermometer.

A little help in the kitchen

How to use it

  1. Choose your serving date, time, time zone and number of guests. Use your own Easter meal date.

  2. Choose the lamb or ham starting plan above the form. Choosing Lamb or Ham in Main roast also fills the example cooking and resting times. Both start with 2 hours cooking and 20 minutes resting; edit these to match your recipe or package. Serving details and side dishes stay when you switch plans.

  3. For ham, choose whether it is raw or fully cooked. Fully cooked ham uses package reheating instructions. The US page distinguishes USDA-inspected packaging from other or unknown packaging. You can use tool 1 for supported raw roast preparations; otherwise enter your recipe time.

  4. Choose Add dish to enter each side's name, cooking time, method and recipe temperature. Arrange oven dishes in their baking order. Hob tasks run independently.

  5. Choose Calculate timeline. Resolve oven warnings and follow the country food thermometer check. Start each timer when beginning its task. Save, share a link, print or download one calendar event per step.

How it works

Main roast out = serving time minus resting time. Main roast in = roast out minus cooking time. The planner allows 20 minutes to preheat before the first oven task.

Oven sides have consecutive slots in list order, with the last side ending at serving time. They use the roast's rest window first. Longer sides extend backwards and can overlap roasting; different temperatures during that overlap trigger an oven warning. Serving time stays fixed.

Hob and cold preparation tasks work back independently from serving time. Check oven space, hob capacity, temperature-change time and safe hot holding yourself. Allow time for oven temperature changes separately; these are not automatically scheduled. Guests describe the menu and do not scale portions or cooking time.

Preset cooking and rest times are editable planning examples. The starting oven setting is also an editable example: 350°F in the US and 180°C elsewhere. Use a recipe matching the meat's weight and preparation, then check internal temperature. A timer cannot confirm that meat is safe.

Raw and fully cooked ham need different instructions. US fully cooked ham targets come from USDA FSIS; UK and Australian pages use their cooking/reheating guidance. For a Canadian packaged fully cooked ham, follow its package reheating instructions rather than treating the raw pork temperature as a reheating target.

Clock times use the selected time zone and can cross midnight. Dates must be today or later for a new plan. Print includes the full timeline; the .ics file must be imported into your calendar.

Frequently asked questions

When does lamb go in for a 1pm Easter dinner?

With the example's 2-hour cooking time and 20-minute rest, preheat at 10:20, put the lamb in at 10:40 and take it out at 12:40. Serve at 13:00. Use your recipe's actual cooking time and temperature.

Are the lamb and ham preset times cooking recommendations?

They are editable planning examples. Both start with 2 hours cooking and 20 minutes resting so you can see the schedule. Replace them with instructions for your meat's weight and preparation. Switching a preset keeps your serving settings and side dishes.

Can I plan a fully cooked Easter ham?

Yes. Choose Ham and its fully cooked preparation, then enter the package's reheating time and oven setting. On the US page, identify whether it was packaged in a USDA-inspected plant; other or unknown packaging has different reheating guidance. The raw roast calculator is not used for reheating.

How does it handle one oven?

Oven sides bake in list order, finishing at serving time. If they overlap the roast at different temperatures, the planner warns. Resolve warnings, allow for temperature changes and check tray space before cooking. Earlier dishes may need safe hot holding.

Does adding guests change the cooking time?

Guest count describes the menu. It does not scale cooking time, portions or ingredients. Change the cooking time to match your roast and use the recipe scaler for ingredient quantities.

Can I save, print or export the Easter plan?

Save in this browser, copy a share link, print the result or download an .ics file with one event per step. Timers start when you press Start timer, remain active while the page is open and reset on refresh or recalculation.
